It was late last night – around 11:00 pm. Moses had just taken over for Hosanna. He got a call from upstairs. One of our young men, Joshua, was symptomatic...
"Due to the Coronavirus, I am working twelve hour shifts, six days a week (at University Medical Center). I’m not afraid. This is my job and I love it."
The first shoe to drop for the vast majority of our kids was their employment – over 85% lost their jobs this week. I know so many of our family and friends find themselves in the same predicament.
Covenant House is proud to be a "legacy charity partner" for the Crescent City Classic. In light of our current national emergency, this year's Classic has transitioned to a VIRTUAL race.
For the second year in a row, I was honored to participate in the annual Sleep Out for Covenant House. Two hundred and thirty sleepers raised over $623,000! With the support of my family and friends, I raised $6,000 for the homeless youth of my city.
This semester, Covenant House is developing a community partnership with Opportunities Academy, a New Orleans school that trains and empowers students with intellectual disabilities between the ages of 18 and 22.
We cared for more youth last year than ever before in our 32-year history. We're excited to share their successes and challenges from the past year.
