Covenant House Updates, Sleep Out

Sleep Out 2022

Our 2022 SLEEP OUT on Thursday, November 17th promises to be a very special night for young people in our region! Our goal is to recruit 225 Sleepers and raise $650,000 to support young people overcoming homelessness and trafficking.

Covenant House youth have not faced the unprecedented challenges in the past few years alone. Thanks to community support, they faced them with our supportive and compassionate staff walking alongside them. Like so many of us, they are trying to cope with increased mental and behavioral health stressors. They are working to achieve stability despite the rising costs of basic needs such as food and housing. If anything, these past few years have taught us that we are in this together.

Last year, the average daily census at Covenant House New Orleans grew to 200 youth and children per night – and as of July 2022, our daily Care Center census was at double capacity and across all programs, we are serving 90 minor children of the youth in our programs. Our dedicated team works 24/7 to provide unconditional love, absolute respect, relentless support and comprehensive services like immediate shelter, food and clothing. Once we have met their immediate needs, we help them with short & long-term housing, medical & behavioral healthcare, individual & family counseling, job training & placement, educational assistance, and more.

Most of the youth at Covenant House are survivors of significant physical and/or sexual abuse, exploitation, rejection, and domestic and/or community violence. The resultant profound trauma often leads to substance use disorders, mental and behavioral wellness challenges, and more. Sleeping Out is our opportunity to show them that they are not alone: that we care and stand with them in their struggles, celebrate them, and support their promise and dreams.

Early lead sponsors include Gulf Coast Bank & Trust and the Downtown Development District.
